The Old Market - located in downtown Omaha, Nebraska - is a fashionable area teeming with trendy restaurants, sophisticated shopping, and interesting attractions. A legacy from the turn of the century, The Old Market features quaint brick paved streets, covered sidewalks, and the occasional horse drawn carriage. Street performers and artists peddling their wares line the streets, make you feel like you've stepped back in time.
A historic district, the Old Market has received an official designation from the National Register of Historic Places. The Commerce Historic District is also located near the Old Market.
Designated on the National Register of Historic Places, this storied landmark hugs the original site of the Jobbers Canyon Historic District. It also borders the Commerce Historic District, Omaha Rail, and the Warehouse area. The Omaha Chamber of Commerce sponsors walking tours of the historic area.

The Old Market was built originally to sell groceries, both retail and wholesale, to the city of Omaha and Nebraska at large. The earliest incarnation of the Old Market was the Market House. Situated in Omaha's Jefferson Square, it was eventually replaced by the larger, thriving Old Market, as Omaha continued to grow in population and resources.
The Old Market included notable buildings like the P.E. Iler Block, which hails from 1901. A six story building, it was originally constructed to function as a warehouse. In 1990, the P. E. Iler building was converted into office and retail space.
A famed, three-story brick building constructed in 1885, the Windsor Hotel was re-purposed for residential and commercial functions in 1985. Constructed in 1878, the two-story brick McClure-Smith Building existed originally as a steam bakery, but in 1985, a refurbishment resulted in a multi-purpose property with retail and office space.
Erected in 1904, the Root building was a three-story brick building designed for office use. An equal-sized annex was added five years later. Architects in 1993 re-envisioned the space as a retail and residential space.
The current Mayfield Apartments began life as a warehouse and light industry construction operation in 1894. In 2002, it was reborn as a mixed use space of apartments, parking, and retail space.Con-Agra, among other notable Nebraska enterprises, currently runs their operations from the beautiful and historic Old Market are in Omaha.
